Background

Elissia V. Welch (“Lissie”) focuses her practice on sophisticated estate planning and estate and trust administration in Franklin Karibjanian & Law’s Washington, D.C. office. She advises clients on a wide range of estate and private wealth matters, including gift and estate tax issues, charitable giving, business succession planning, generation-skipping transfer tax issues, and trust and estate administration.

Lissie serves as the Chair of the Estate Planning Committee of the D.C. Bar’s Taxation Community, where she regularly coordinates professional development programs for tax practitioners in the estate planning arena, including planning presentations featuring leading practitioners and key government officials in the field.

Prior to joining the firm, Lissie served as an associate attorney at Birchstone Moore where she worked on estate and wealth transfer planning for high net worth individuals and their families, including trusts, family offices, and closely held businesses. Her experience also includes working closely with various business entities, including large franchises, limited liability companies, partnerships, and corporations. During law school, she worked for the in-house corporate counsel of the Nashville Predators, ensuring the team’s compliance with various state and tax regulations within the industry.  She also represented businesses and tax-exempt organizations while serving as both a counselor within her law school’s Business Law Clinic and as a law clerk at Dom Law in Tampa, Florida, advising clients on their business planning and administration matters, as well as registering and managing their intellectual property.  Lissie uses this knowledge of general business matters when advising clients on the preservation and transfer of wealth, charitable giving, and business succession planning.
